We collect information in the following ways:

a) Information You Provide Voluntarily

When you use our College Fit Quiz, you may provide: your household budget for college, preferred location (state or region), intended major or field of study, and personality type preferences. This information is used solely to generate college recommendations and is stored in our database to improve our recommendation algorithm. We do not collect your name or email address unless you choose to contact us directly.

b) Information Collected Automatically

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain technical information including: pages visited, time spent on pages, search queries entered on the Site, schools viewed, browser type, device type, and general geographic region (country/state level only). This data is collected through Google Analytics 4 and our own analytics database (Supabase). We do not collect your precise location or IP address in identifiable form.

c) Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate the Site and analyze traffic. These include: essential cookies required for the Site to function, analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4) that help us understand how visitors use the Site, and preference cookies that remember your settings. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some features of the Site may not function properly without them. See our Cookie Policy for details.

We use the information we collect to:

• Generate personalized college match recommendations based on your quiz responses
• Improve the accuracy of our recommendation algorithm over time
• Analyze which features and content are most useful to visitors
• Operate, maintain, and improve the Site
• Detect and prevent technical errors or abuse
• Comply with legal obligations

We currently do not sell personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for targeted advertising. We do not share your information with colleges or universities without your consent. If this changes in the future, we will update this Privacy Policy and notify users through the site.

We use the following third-party services that may process data on our behalf:

DecideMyCampus is intended for use by high school students, their parents, and guardians. Some users may be under 13 years of age.

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Our Site does not require registration, login, or the submission of any name or contact information to use core features.

If you believe we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13, please contact us at hello@decidemycampus.com and we will promptly delete that information.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) gives you specific rights regarding your personal information:

• The right to know what personal information we collect, use, disclose, or sell
• The right to request deletion of personal information we have collected about you
• The right to opt out of the sale of personal information
• The right to non-discrimination for exercising your CCPA rights

Anonymized quiz submission data is retained for up to 24 months to improve our recommendation algorithm, then deleted. Google Analytics data is retained for 14 months per our GA4 configuration. We do not retain information longer than necessary for the purposes described in this policy.

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These include: HTTPS encryption for all data in transit, row-level security (RLS) controls on our database, and restricted API access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure.

The Site may contain links to external websites, including college and university websites, government data sources, and third-party resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of any external sites. We encourage you to read the privacy policy of any site you visit.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Your continued use of the Site after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
